Middle of the night...again

Well, here I am...in the middle of the night...again. Maybe this is my best time to write? I got up to go to the bathroom, as I often do, and the dogs wanted to go outside-since I happen to be awake. I thought, well okay, how long could this really take. So, I let the dogs outside and went to the refrigerator for a drink and maybe just one bite of cookie dough. Hmm, where is the cookie dough? WHERE IS THE COOKIE DOUGH? Ugh! I just know that the boys, yes even my husband ate it! I had at least a half a batch of cookies left in there. They were Martha Stewart's S-Shaped cookies that had turned out delicious, but not nearly as pretty as Martha's. I had rolled some out and made stars and teddy bears. Something about shaped cookies- they seem to go really fast in this house! They weren't fancy. No frosting or sprinkles or frills- just yummy all by themselves. Oh well- I can make more! I bought some Reese's peanut butter chips to make cookies or brownies or whatever comes to mind.
I'm not much of a cook. I really enjoy baking, but my problem is my sincere lack of patience. Consequently, I sometimes miss a step or two. I am trying to be more careful about reading the entire recipe first and then setting out all of my ingredients. There is nothing worse than being in the middle of baking something wonderful only to find out that I am a couple of eggs short!
Speaking of cooking, my "mama" took me out for a wonderful day yesterday. We started the day by going to the "Cupcake Connektions (not misspelled)" at the Linen Building downtown. Folks could enter their cupcakes into a competition for judging on various categories and for admission price, we got to eat two cupcakes. I ate a heavenly lemon cupcake with three blueberries on top. Oh my goodness, was that delectable! The lemon and blueberry flavors just marry together perfectly! After that, we were inspired to find perfect, unique cupcakes. We drove out to Eagle to a wonderful little cupcake bakery called, "Lily Jane." The flavor possibilities were endless, but my goodness they were expensive. Mama wanted to buy a dozen for me for my birthday lunch on Sunday. We purchased a delightful assortment including lemon with a sweet little yellow, fondant flower on top, coconut, chocolate, red velvet with red sprinkles and a little heart on the very top of the icing, peanut butter with a Reece's cup on top which melted in the car and looked like a slug, and then two extra-chocolate chip with a little chocolate chip cookie on top for the boys. The boys were so excited to have their very own famous Lily Jane cupcake, and this was their first one...ever! I've heard so much about Lily Jane and I love the name, but I've never gotten out to Eagle solely for the purpose of spoiling myself with an expensive, gourmet cupcake from Lily Jane's! This was a treat indeed! I can't wait to eat my cupcake, or two after lunch on Sunday! That's today! Oh, I need to go back to sleep....
First, let me finish telling you about my day with my mama yesterday. After purchasing our loot at Lily Jane's, we headed home to give the boys their treat and I also wanted to show mama the patterns that I bought a while back to sew some aprons- retro style aprons. We noticed some for sale at Lily Jane's and I talked to the owner about my wanting to make some myself. She said that I could bring them by and possibly sell them there at her bakery- especially if they have cupcakes on them! Well, if that wasn't incentive than I don't know what is! I'm excited to start making some cute 1950"s style aprons with cupcakes on them and whatever retro style fabrics I can find.
Mama and I left to go to her house after taking the boys to the YMCA to swim. I can't believe that they are old enough now that i can just let them out and have Paul pick them up in a couple of hours! We headed to Mama's house and planned to go to Murphy's for lunch and to see a matinee- "Julie and Julia." After visiting with Dad, we bought our movie tickets on-line and headed out for lunch and a movie. Everything was perfect! We had such a wonderful girls day, which was greatly needed and anticipated! "Julie and Julia" was a delightful movie- a little long, but a good movie indeed.
I became inspired to blog as the character does on this movie that we saw. I think I will skip the part where she cooks 500+ recipes in 365 days and then blogs everyday about it. It was a great story, but I would likely lose my mind. I don't care much for cooking. I do love to bake, but I can't do that all of the time or I would be fat! I love to eat more than I love to bake! Just like Julie & Julia, i love to eat! I am hoping that I will blog often and have enough confidence to open it up to readers. It may not be that interesting to me- the silly, sometimes sad stories of my life, but maybe I will help someone along the way... somehow.
Back to bed and hopefully sweet cupcake dreams...
